The attack on Saudi Arabia's refineries may cause some headaches at the gas pump here in the United States.
Representatives from AAA say one of the refineries hit in the drone strike supplies 6% of the world's oil, and that could mean an increase of about a quarter per gallon by the end of the month. That would bring Connecticut's average close to $3 a gallon.
AAA's Fran Mayko says it's hard to say how much or for how long the spike will affect prices here, but she says in the U.S., people shouldn't feel the pinch as much as elsewhere in the world, because the U.S. depends less on foreign oil.
"We do not import much oil from Saudi Arabia, we depend on our own supplies. So as a result, the impact will probably not be as bad as other countries will be experiencing," said Mayko.
Mayko says watching the price of crude oil is a good way to predict increases at the pump. She says since the bombing, the price of crude jumped from about $52 to about $61 a barrel.
According to AAA, the average gas price in Connecticut is $2.69 per gallon. AAA says so far, the price of crude oil has jumped from $52 to $61 per barrel since the attack.
President Donald Trump has also authorized the release of strategic oil reserves if needed.
