Greenwich - There was a large turnout today in Greenwich as around 100 people honored veterans in southwest Connecticut, both past and present.
The town's annual Salute to Veterans was held from 9 a.m. to noon on Havemeyer Field behind Town Hall. The United Service Organizations’ group known as the Liberty Belles provided the fireworks for this pre-Fourth of July salute.
Despite the relatively upbeat mood, there were moments of somber remembrance for the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Organizers say the event featured dozens of veterans, along with active duty troops from across the region and appearances by local lawmakers and the state Color Guard.
