Stamford police say an autistic man was robbed outside of a mall.
Police say the 27-year-old victim was walking to the Stamford Town Center to buy himself video games with his birthday money when a man approached him. Surveillance video shows the suspect walking behind the victim through Veterans Park.
When they enter the breezeway, the two start talking and the victim seems excited to show the suspect his birthday money that was given to him by his family. Next, the video shows the suspect teasing the man with the money until he gets visibly upset.
The suspect pretends to give the money back and acts like he is putting it in the man's pocket. The two hug and then the suspect is seen running through the park toward Atlantic Street.
Police say the victim did not realize his money was gone until it was too late. They say they have started a collection within the department for the victim and have collected well over the $100 that was taken from him.
Kindness has also carried over into the community, and police have received a lot of donations for the man.
Anyone with information on the crime should call Stamford police.
