The battle for North Hempstead town supervisor is the most hotly contested race in Nassau County.
The current freshman incumbent Jen Desena is facing a challenge from former longtime Democratic town Supervisor Jon Kaiman.
“I think the disconnect today is really about the current supervisor’s inability to kind of work with both sides of the aisle,” said Kaiman.
"It has been one party rule for 32 years and Kaiman would like to go back to that," DeSena says.
Two years ago, Jen Desena became the first Republican in more than 30 years to be elected North Hempstead Town supervisor.
However, Democrats maintained control of the town board, leading to a tense power struggle inside of Town Hall.
“They have been focused on day one on this upcoming election. They want to have their clubhouse back,” said Desena.
The candidates are knocking on every door and calling on every volunteer.   They each insist they are focused on the kitchen table issues that matter to voters.
