One man was killed and another was injured after being shot by Bridgeport police in an incident that also hurt three officers.

Detectives say police shot the suspects during a confrontation over a stolen car near Fairfield and Park avenues around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez says officers were on foot trying to apprehend two men they believed had stolen a car when that vehicle struck three officers. That's when the shooting occurred.

One of the injured officers has been released from the hospital, while the other two were still being treated as of Tuesday night. They are expected to recover.

The suspects' identities have not yet been released.

State police have taken over the investigation.
