A Bridgeport church has come forward to help a disabled organ recipient who feared he would become homeless following an increase in his rent.
Frank Reese's rent went up $50 a month recently, which he says put a strain on his finances because he lives on a fixed income. He began to fall behind on his rent payments.
Reese received a kidney donation in 2019.
Sen. Herron Gaston, also a pastor Summerfield United Methodist Church, says after he heard Reese's situation and decided to help.
"Our outreach team voted unanimously to help pay his rent for the next three months to ensure that we're giving him a hand up," he said.
Reese says he is grateful. He also tells News 12 he is seeking an emergency Section 8 voucher, so he does not up in the same situation in three months.
