BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport woman who suffers from a potentially fatal illness says she will not become homeless tomorrow thanks in part to help from News 12 Connecticut.

Dawn Brown says she became homeless three years ago after a close friend who was supporting her while she was sick suddenly passed away.

Brown suffers from Crohn's Disease and has had 10 operations on her stomach since 2008. To make matters worse, Brown says her time will soon be up at the temporary homeless shelter where she is currently staying, leaving her once again out on the street.

News 12 Connecticut shared Brown's story with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who then contacted the Executive Director of the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Terry Wilcox. The mission agreed to take Brown in for one month on an emergency basis.

Wilcox says it would not be possible to help people like Brown without support from the public.
