Milford police are warning seniors if they receive letters offering prizes or deals that sound too good to be true, odds are they?re being scammed.Police say at least three seniors have been duped out of money after getting three different types of letters in the mail. According to police, the first letter asks for a $3,900 processing fee to cash in on a $75,000 sweepstakes, the second form letter tells seniors that for $400 they can buy a Medicare card entitling them to opt out of co-pays, and yet another letter involves a grant scam. One red flag police are advising people to be on the look out for is a missing return address. They also say the letters are postmarked Canada and ask the money to be sent to Nigeria. Police urge anyone who opens such letters to confirm the company exists, or if they have doubts to take the letter to the police station.
