A family who’s loved one died of a rare blood disease are gathering in Bridgeport to mark what would have been her 29th birthday.
News 12 was at Lakeview Cemetery on Boston Avenue where Brittney Robertson was laid to rest back in May. She died of aplastic anemia.
The family says they have not yet been able to get Robertson a proper headstone. The family, joined by about a dozen supporters, is observing Robertson's birthday by kicking off an effort to finally get the single working mother this most basic of tributes.
State and local leaders came to support the effort.
"Bridgeport is the type of community that really comes together in a time of need and this is a time of need and I hope we can do it again," says Mayor of Bridgeport Joe Ganim.
Anyone interested in helping with the headstone fundraiser can call 203-360-9078 or donate on GoFundMe.
