GREENWICH - A Greenwich dermatologist is offering patients a high-tech way to assess skin damage.

The new device, called Skin-Scope, promises to help track improvements in skin to see if treatment is working.

Dr. Kim Nichols, of Greenwich, says the device allows her to see damage that lies beneath that top layer of skin.

She says it's helpful for patients to see where and how extensive their skin damage is on the cellular level. Patients can even snap a picture for themselves on their smartphone.

The Skin-Scope allows Nichols to illuminate the problem areas with UV light, and then works with the patient to come up with treatments.

Patients can utilize the Skin-Scope more than once to see if there's improvement.
