OXFORD - The Town of Oxford is rallying behind a family dog that was shot trying to defend her owner last week.

Police say Scott Gellatly fatally shot his wife Lori and injured her mother, who's in critical condition.

Published reports say several funds have been set up for the 10-year-old female German shepherd mix named Nika, whose medical bills are nearing the $10,000 mark.

Nika will be returned to Lori’s four children when the dog recovers.
