A funeral service was held Friday for a 25-year-old Bronx woman whose dismembered body was found scattered across two parks.
Friends and family of Lisa Velasquez gathered at the Church of St. Anselm and St. Roch to say their final goodbyes.
Velasquez's body parts were discovered over the course of two weeks in late August in both Barretto Point Park and Crotona Park.
Loved ones of Velasquez are hoping she is not remembered for the circumstances surrounding her death, but for who she was.
"She was friendly, outgoing, always had a smile on her face," said Tatiana Segarra, the victim's friend. "That's how we want to remember her--all the good memories."
The victim's family had endured a similar tragedy in 2006 when Velasquez's pregnant mother was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. They are trying to seek solace in any way they can.
"I'm sad but happy they are finally together," said Jackie Perez, the victim's aunt. "It didn't have to be like this but I have to find some peace some kind of way."
Velasquez's accused killers, Ciara Martinez and Daquan Wheeler, appeared in court Thursday.
Police say both of the suspects knew Velasquez and she was a friend of Martinez.
Officials say Martinez helped Wheeler hide Velasquez's body after he allegedly murdered her during a domestic incident at their apartment.
The victim's family had endured a similar tragedy in 2006 when Velasquez's pregnant mother was murder by her ex-boyfriend.
Both Martinez and Wheeler are charged with murder, manslaughter and concealing a human corpse.
