A bill limiting police and probation officers' dealings with federal immigration authorities has received final approval in the state General Assembly.

Right now, departments like Bridgeport police notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement when they have an immigrant who is illegally in the country in their custody. This legislation would ban that practice unless federal authorities have a warrant signed by a judge.

Probation officers would also be banned from contacting ICE without a warrant.

The bill now heads to Gov. Ned Lamont.
