For many people, the holiday season means spending more time with family.

Elder care experts are warning the public of “senior slide," a popular phenomenon where families recognize their elderly loved one needs some extra help around the home.

Assisted Living Homecare services says it sees an increase in calls this time of year with families spending more time with elderly parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

“It happens to all families," regional director Christopher LaRiviere says. "It may happen in a different way, a different manner, or in a different speed on how quickly something has happened, but they’re not alone."

Experts say people should look out for warning signs of decline in a loved one’s health like trouble performing routine tasks, neglect of basic hygiene, personality changes, and more.
