Metro-North holds conference on safety plan

The MTA says it is implementing 27 safety

The MTA says it is implementing 27 safety initiatives following a comprehensive safety assessment.

THE BRONX - Metro-North held a news conference this morning on its new safety plan more than five months after a crash killed four people in the Bronx.

The MTA says it is implementing 27 new steps including putting up inside and outside facing cameras, and an alert system in case an engineer nods off.

Connecticut’s congressional delegation also spoke at Union Station in New Haven. Lawmakers said that commuters are impatient and frustrated with good reason -- and they believe Metro-North is moving in the right direction.

Congressional leaders said they have a commitment to make sure Metro-North gets funding for upgrades. They will also be watching Metro-North to make sure it sticks to its plan.
