Emotions ran high in a Bridgeport courtroom Tuesday as the second suspect accused of killing a local store owner went before a judge.
Del DeSousa and other family members of victim Jose Salgado went to face-to-face with 18-year-old Treizy Lopez, one of the suspects accused of killing Salgado at his grocery store on April 11.
While Lopez stood emotionless, Salgado's son, Joe, spoke in court. He said that his family will be at all of the court appearances related to the case, and they hope Lopez will spend the rest of his life in prison.
The arrest warrant says Salgado's wife, Maria, told police that the man later identified as Lopez held a gun, demanded money, and told her "Don't say anything, don't touch anything." The document says while her husband was handing over the cash, a man later identified as 22-year-old Leighton Vanderberg shot him in the neck.
Vanderberg claims Lopez fired the shot.
Family members say Salgado's store is now open, but they hope to sell what they can and then close for good on Saturday.
Both Lopez and Vanderberg are charged with murder, and are being held on a $1 million bond. They are both due in court next month.
