1 dead in Merritt Parkway car fire

FAIRFIELD - Police are investigating after a body was found near a burning van on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield last night.

The fire was discovered just before 11:30 p.m. at exit 44 on the southbound side.

Firefighters say they found the body of a 55-year-old Bridgeport man in the brush near the van.

Fire officials say another driver stopped at the scene and was rear-ended by another car. They say one of those drivers was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center for minor injuries.

Authorities say they are waiting for a report from the state medical examiner before they give any other information.
