1 killed in fire at University Towers building near Yale University

Officials say the fire broke out early this morning on the sixth floor of a 17-story apartment building. (6/11/14)

NEW HAVEN - One person is dead after an early morning fire at a high-rise apartment building near the Yale University campus.

Officials say the fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. on the sixth floor of the 17-story University Towers building.

They say at least five people were hurt, including two firefighters.

The building was evacuated and several residents were pulled off balconies as 35 firefighters put the fire out.
