2 Bridgeport firefighters die, 5 injured after battling house fire

BRIDGEPORT - Two Bridgeport firefighters died and five others were injured after battling a fire this afternoon.Click "NEXT" to watch Mayor Bill Finch's news conference on the fire.

Fire officials say the fire started at 4 p.m. in a multi-family home on Elmwood Avenue. They say due to the intense heat, more crews had to be called in to help.

Officials have identified the men as a recently promoted lieutenant and a rookie firefighter, who was on the job for less than two years.

News 12 Connecticut has been told that both men were fathers as well as that Mayor Bill Finch has spoken with both families.

There is still no word on the condition of the five firefighters that were injured.
