2 car fires on I-95 slow traffic during the afternoon

FAIRFIELD - Firefighters battled two different car fires on Interstate 95 today which slowed, and at some points stopped traffic on the interstate.

The first fire occurred at 4 p.m. between exit 22 and 23 on the southbound side. The fire injured two people inside the car who were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police shut down the entire southbound side for two hours while the scene was being cleaned up.

The second fire broke out at exit 27 around 6 p.m. Police say the car overheated and caught fire but fortunately the occupants were able to get out before the fire broke out.
