NEW HAVEN - Police are investigating a crash on the New Haven-Woodbridge border that left two people dead and one injured.

Authorities say the accident happened shortly after 5 a.m. near Whaley Avenue and Amity Road. A car apparently struck a curb, ran into a mulch pile and became airborne. It then landed directly on a gas station overhang and flipped to its side.

One man was thrown from the car, but was not seriously hurt. Both victims who died were inside the vehicle.

Detectives say it could take several weeks to determine the exact cause behind the crash, but they believe speed was a factor.

The victims have yet to be identified.
