FAIRFIELD - Two dogs are recovering after being rescued from a house fire last night on Old Field Road in Fairfield.

The owner was able to get out on her own, but was not able to get her pets out.

Firefighters located the dogs, but said they were barely breathing when they got them out of the house.

The firefighters used oxygen masks until animal control could take the dogs to Norwalk Emergency Animal Hospital.

Veterinarians there say that the dogs are improving and should be recovered in the next few days.

Two cats in the home did not survive the fire.
