2 killed in car accident in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT - Two people have died after their car crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer early Sunday morning on Route 25 in Bridgeport.

Police say Jennifer Edwards, 52, and Edwin Thomas, 36, were killed instantly as Edwards' car slammed into an 18-wheeler parked on the shoulder of Route 25 at around 5:30 this morning. The truck driver, 64-year-old Elias Londono of New Jersey, had pulled over to make a phone call and was hit by his truck when the force of the accident pushed it forward. Londono only suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

The cause of the accident is unknown, pending autopsy results, but police believe fatigue could have been a factor.
