2 Metro-North trains collide, derail

RIDGEFIELD - Metro-North officials say two trains sideswiped each other and derailed Friday night in Ridgefield.

The collision happened at around 10:30 p.m. near the Branchville Station by Route 7. Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say one train was pulled off to the siding to allow another train to pass on the one-track line when the two crashed.

Passengers heading northbound to Danbury say they felt the trains scrape against each other and shake back and forth. About 30 to 40 passengers were escorted off the trains, but no one was injured.

Service was fully restored by Saturday morning.
