FAIRFIELD - Fairfield police say a person drove off an exit ramp on Monday night and into a gas station, sending four people to the hospital.

It happened just before 9 p.m. southbound on exit 24 of the Kings Highway.

The driver first hit a protective barrier of the gas pumps and then drove into the gas station, hitting two other cars. One car had a mother and a baby inside, according to police.

The first car then hit a utility pole and exploded.

The condition of the victims has not yet been released.
