WESTPORT - After 45 years of making pizzas for the people of Westport, John's Best Pizza is closing its doors.

On the pizzeria's last day in business, the shop held a surprise birthday party, thrown by Sarah Dransfield for her daughter. Dransfield said that she had to throw her daughter's ninth birthday there because that's what her mother did, and it has become a family tradition.

The owner of the pizzeria, Dino Avellino, says the rent is now too high to keep the business running, but he would like to find a less expensive place to rent in the near future.
