STAMFORD - A 90-year-old Stamford woman who smokes marijuana as a treatment for glaucoma will soon testify before state and federal lawmakers.

Gloria Blick says her message will be simple: Medical marijuana has the potential to save the eyesight of millions of older Americans just like her.

According to doctors, marijuana is one of the most effective treatments for the disease, which can cause blindness, and it costs one-seventh as much as conventional medications.

Blick began using marijuana under the supervision of a doctor, when the pharmaceutical drugs were no longer working. "And I fear every day of my life that I don't lose my sight," she said.

She is scheduled to testify before lawmakers early next year, in favor of a marijuana law.
