Abandoned house on Madison Court catches fire for the 4th time in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT - An abandoned house in Bridgeport caught fire last night for what neighbors say is the fourth time.

Firefighters say the fire started in the basement of the vacant house at 6 Madison Court.

News 12 Connecticut was on the scene on Christmas Eve 2012 when the house and three others caught fire. Firefighters ruled arson as the cause for the 2012 fires.

Neighbors say they want the abandoned house torn down and one landlord who owns the building next door says he can't find a tenant to fill his first-floor apartment because of it.

Bridgeport officials declared the house blighted property after the 2012 fire and said it would be demolished, but it's still standing more than a year later. The city's blight director says his department is working to track down owners and get rid of abandoned buildings in the city.
