FAIRFIELD - A man accused of setting six fires in Fairfield this week appeared before a judge today.
Christopher Message, 34, was arraigned on three counts of arson and two counts of burglary.
Police say Message confessed to setting three fires early yesterday morning and three others over the past week.
Fire officials say all of the blazes were started in homes that were empty and for sale.
Police say Message confessed to setting three of the fires, two at a home on Chatham Road and another at a nearby shed.
Court records show that after allegedly setting that fire, Message became worried that someone was inside and called 911 himself, giving the name John Doe.
Police say they were able to make a quick arrest after tracing that phone call and talking to a number of eyewitnesses.
Authorities say Message will face additional charges because two firefighters were hurt fighting the blazes.
Police are now investigating if Message may be involved in similar fires in Bridgeport, Easton and Westport.
