Accused stabber appears in court

BRIDGEPORT - A man accused of beating and stabbing his ex-wife in Stratford went before a judge this afternoon.

Police say Jasapersaud Hariprashad attacked his ex, Sharmli Ali, yesterday morning after demanding to know who she was dating.

The attack occurred in a parking lot outside the Stratford Wal-Mart.

Police say Hariprashad then kidnapped the woman, but she was able to convince him to drop her off at the hospital.

Ali says she has since been released from the hospital and is now recovering at her home.

The judge set Hariprashad's bail at $1 million and he is due back in court Aug. 25.
