STAMFORD - With temperatures on the rise, an air quality alert has been issued for parts of southwestern Connecticut.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is forecasting poor air quality through Saturday.

Doctors say that the elderly, the young and residents with asthma or breathing problems should limit their time outdoors.

Residents around the area are listening to these warnings while enjoying the warmer weather.

"I know the pollen count is high, but I take medication for that," says Connie Brown, of Stamford. "But today is a good day. I'm really enjoying the weather."

Dr. David Reed, director of health at the New Canaan Health Department, advises residents to drive less, use public transportation and stay indoors to reduce being exposed to poor air quality.

He adds that if someone experiences symptoms including a persistent cough, they should contact their doctor.
