STAMFORD - Relief workers from southwestern Connecticut arrived in Oklahoma today.
The workers are from the relief organizations AmeriCares and Save the Children, both of which are based in the area.
Meanwhile, AmeriCares workers at the Stamford headquarters were racing to ship supplies to struggling tornado survivors. AmeriCares spokeswoman Donna Porstner says workers in Connecticut are preparing family emergency kits with items such as toothpaste, baby wipes and toilet paper while they wait to hear from the team in Oklahoma.
Porstner says Nestle, which is one of AmeriCares’ donors, already shipped 75,000 bottles of water from a warehouse near the disaster.
The organization says AmeriCares hopes to deploy trucks to Oklahoma tonight.
