GREENWICH - A new addition at a Greenwich conservation center has zoo officials scratching their heads.

A baby anteater was born at the LEO Zoological Conservation Center in April. Zoo officials say the baby’s parents have not been together since August, much longer than the six-month gestation period for anteaters.

Officials at the LEO Zoological Conservation Center acknowledge this could have been a work of nature running its course.

"They can be very acrobatic and find a way to mate even through the fence," a zoo official says.

Zoo officials say the parents and baby are all happy and healthy.
