BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport funeral home says a man and woman stole the cremated remains of their son.

The director at Luz de Paz Funeral Home says it is one of the most unusual things he has ever seen happen in the industry.

He says a couple came in Friday to pick up the cremated remains of their 8-month-old son, and acted as if they had the intention of paying their $800 balance. Surveillance video shows the father stealing the ashes from a cabinet after the director stepped out of the room.

The couple then fled the premises without paying for the cremation services. The director says that if the father plans to return to his hometown in Puerto Rico, he will not have the necessary paperwork to take his son's remains.

Police say they're using the surveillance video to search for the suspects.
