BRIDGEPORT - Many Bridgeport students received free backpacks today for the upcoming school year.

The annual Backpack Giveback event was held in the city. It ensures that students will have the supplies they need for success in class.

Organizers say 1,500 backpacks were given out to students.

The backpacks contained supplies including scissors, a stapler, a calculator and more. Each bag cost the organization between $25 and $30.

This is the fifth year that the event has been held.
