Bedbug sweep takes place at 2 Stamford schools

STAMFORD - Exterminators are treating two Stamford schools today after bedbugs were found in student backpacks.

Officials say the bugs were found at Dolan Middle School and the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering School (AIT) during a sweep of both buildings last night.

Workers say they have sealed off six classrooms at AIT to prevent the bedbugs from spreading to other parts of the building.

The school district is mailing informational letters from the health department home to parents about bedbugs and how to detect them. The school says it is not an infestation and that it is doing everything it can.

Both schools have remained open.
