STAMFORD - More than 100 people donated blood Sunday at a drive held to help a Stamford teen suffering from leukemia.
The blood donation drive, which was held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford, was organized by the community to help Peter Arahovitis, a local teen with cancer. Organizers say many members of Stamford's Greek community were in attendance.
Todd Piskin, who is one of Arahovitis' classmates, says he, and many other students, donated blood to help their friend. Arahovitis' sister, Elena, says the outpouring of support from the community has helped her family get through a difficult time.
"Everyone has been so generous and I'm very grateful, very grateful that everyone has just come together to help out my brother and my family," she says.
In addition to blood, Arahovitis needs blood platelets to stay alive. Red Cross volunteers were on hand to run the drive and prepare people to donate blood.
