Blumenthal's service record questioned

Connecticut Attorney General and Democratic candidate for Senate Richard Blumenthal is defending himself against a New York Times article that claims he has repeatedly lied

HARTFORD - Connecticut Attorney General and Democratic candidate for Senate Richard Blumenthal is defending himself against a New York Times article that claims he has repeatedly lied about serving in Vietnam.

The article claims Blumenthal received several deferments before enlisting in a reserve unit that was not sent overseas.

The paper claims Blumenthal has repeatedly made statements about his service and the report included video from a 2008 event in Norwalk where Blumenthal said, "We have learned something very important from the days when I served in Vietnam."

Blumenthal issued a statement saying he misspoke at the event and has never tried to mislead people about his service record. He's scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. today to address the concerns.
