STAMFORD - An unexpected decision was made Saturday to close the Yerwood Center in Stamford.

The board of directors announced that the center would temporarily close next Friday, but News 12 Connecticut was at the facility on Saturday when the decision was made to immediately stop operating.

Board members say the center is struggling with finances, which led them to temporarily suspend programs and operations.

However, members say they are trying every method to assure the center can open its doors again.

Third-party organizations are still able to use the facility, as long as they contact the board.
