FAIRFIELD - A nearly 89-year-old retiree is helping to build affordable homes in southwestern Connecticut.

Bob Koch spends three days a week volunteering at Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County to build desperately needed affordable housing. He's been doing it for more than 15 years.

The retired machinist and builder says the work is not easy, but it feels good to put his experience to use helping local families in need.

"Until I get kicked out, I have no plans," he says. "I hope to keep doing this until I get so weak or unable to move that I can't do it."

Officials at Habitat for Humanity in Bridgeport say they are currently looking for more volunteers.
