FAIRFIELD - Sacred Heart University in Fairfield has announced Bobby Valentine as its new executive director of athletics.

Hundreds showed up today to meet their new athletic director.

Valentine says that he loves challenges, and while many see this choice as coming out of left field, he believes it makes sense.

Valentine replaces outgoing director Donald Cook, who is retiring at the end of June after more than 20 years.

Valentine was the manager of the Boston Red Sox during the 2012 season and also managed the New York Mets to the World Series in 2000.
