Body recovered from Lake Mohegan after apparent drowning

FAIRFIELD - One person is dead after apparently drowning at Lake Mohegan in Fairfield this morning.

Police identified the victim as 39-year-old Frank Mazzabufi. They say he and a friend entered the water from the wooded shoreline about 100 yards out.

Chopper 12 was above the scene as dozens of rescue officials responded after lifeguards made the emergency call.

Police say the lifeguards told them that they saw the swimmer struggling, go underwater and never resurface.

Officials say after more than an hour-long search, Mazzabufi's body was pulled from the lake.

Authorities say it is the second drowning in Fairfield this summer.
