BOE asks state for money to keep Bridgeport school open

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport Board of Education members are asking the state for more money in hopes of saving a Bridgeport school from closing in the midst of a budget crunch.

Parents, teachers and other employees of Dunbar Elementary School sat quietly with signs spelling out their discontent on the possible closure.

Officials had previously said that a final vote was expected tonight, but that never happened.

However, Bridgeport officials say they did reach a tentative agreement today with union members who work as classroom aides, special education van drivers and clerical workers.

The agreement calls for no layoffs over the next two years in exchange for employees paying significantly higher health care costs.
