BRIDGEPORT -  Bridgeport police detonated a pressure cooker at Seaside Park this afternoon after deeming it suspicious.

Police say the empty pressure cooker was left unattended underneath a tree along the Long Island Sound, but was detonated as a precaution.

Campus officials at the University of Bridgeport say roads were blocked and buildings on campus were evacuated. In addition, part of Seaside Park was shut down and nearby ferry service was suspended.

The scene returned to normal after several hours. Authorities are continuing to investigate whether the pot was left to cause alarm or was simply discarded.
