BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport police officer was suspended by the chief for using a racial slur over the radio two weeks ago.

Chief Joe Gaudett says Lt. John Cummings used a racial slur that was inadvertently broadcast over the radio and he says it was clear as a bell.

Gaudett says that Cummings was suspended without pay for 20 days, was removed from the department's elite SWAT team and must undergo sensitivity training.

The president of the Bridgeport NAACP says she's satisfied with the punishment.
