BRIDGEPORT - An 11-year-old Bridgeport boy received a special birthday surprise after being robbed at gunpoint for his shoes this past May.

Bridgeport activist and entrepreneur Exavier Longwa, who runs a small business customizing shoes, decided to raise money to buy Komontay Jarett a brand new pair of $220 Jordan Olympic 7 sneakers.

Longwa found out about Jarret’s situation through social media.

“As a city, we wanted to show you that there's more than just bad people out here,” he told Jarett.

Longwa is hosting a back-to-school event for kids and the general public on Sept. 3.
