BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport City Council President Thomas McCarthy says a fight caught on tape earlier this week should have never happened. McCarthy says he regrets that the fight between Councilwoman Evette Brantley and community activist Cecil Young occurred and hopes he never sees something similar again. Young claims Councilwoman Evette Brantley hit him in the nose and then Councilman Angel de Para tackled him after he spoke out about sewage issues. He says he already had a back injury, but the fight made it worse and that he is considering a lawsuit. Mayor Bill Finch released a statement today, saying the fight occurred before he arrived for the meeting and that everyone must exhibit respect and civility when dealing with each other.
