BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport company unveiled the world's first unmanned security guard robot Monday.
A-Plus Technology & Security showed off the SHARP Intellos Automated Unmanned Ground Vehicle and says it is the first company to sell the robot in the U.S.
"It has an onboard sensor system that includes cameras, thermal cameras and safety sensors that include gas, chemical, and radiation detection,” SHARP Electronics Corporation’s Dave Lewis says.
A-Plus Technology & Security says the robot can essentially patrol an entire power plant, factory or airport. They say the robot is equipped with 360-degree situational awareness, which allows it to see anyone walking around it at any point.
The company says the cost of the machine is comparable to a full-time security guard's yearly salary. They say that could mean more than $20 million in taxable sales next year alone.
