BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport families who lost everything in a devastating New Year's Eve fire at a condo complex started getting much-needed help Tuesday.

The complex on Charles Street burned to the ground last month leaving more than 100 people displaced.

Victims applied for federal loans at the Morton Government Center in Bridgeport, which could take three weeks to receive. Officials say the interest rates for disaster loans can be as low as 1.8 percent. It is offered through the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Officials say homeowners can qualify for up to $200,000, while renters can apply for up to $40,000 to replace their belongings.

Victims can also stop by the government center Wednesday and Thursday.
