BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport contractor who pleaded guilty to stealing more than $150,000 in cash and jewelry from a client avoided jail time yesterday.

John Zukowski, 39, admitted to taking the items and money from a Weston family while building its garage last year.

A Norwalk judge gave Zukowski a suspended prison sentence, but ordered him to pay back $50,000 to the family.

Police say most of the jewelry, including a $53,000 ring, were recovered.
